Every high achieving badass will experience days when they’re all out of sorts and wished they were in a better mood.
You've had days like that, haven't you?
Sometimes we get stuck in our heads and forget how easy it can be to get some respite and lift ourselves out of it.
So, without further ado, here are seven simple ways to lift your mood that my clients find helpful 😊
1) Go for a walk.
Most people know that going for a short daily walk is one of the best forms of exercise but when you’re feeling naff it is even more beneficial.
If you can, go into a natural environment, with plants and birds, and try to notice these things:
What do you notice first? The different shades of greenery, the fresh smell of country air, the sounds of birds, or the sunlight shining through the trees?
Make it real by taking a short stroll and taking this all in – remember to turn your phone to ‘airplane mode' so you are not disturbed.
Finally, make sure you roll your shoulders back and adopt a ‘smiley walk’, instead of slumping over and walking around with a frown. This can actually make you feel happier, according to a recent study.
2) Listen to music.
Music can shift your emotional state within moments.
It's effect can be 'magical'!
As our appetite for a particular genre and tempo of song will differ depending on our mood, I suggest creating an extra special, high energy Spotify playlist for times like these, that will get you up and moving.

3) Simple breathing meditation.
If you have been following me for a while, you'll know that I LOVE meditating.
However, if you are new to my world, or the world of self-care, don't worry, I was pulling the same face as you are now!
Breathing meditation exercises may seem a bit 'woo woo', but I can assure you, they aren’t.
My favourite one on the go is to simply allow myself to sit comfortably with my back straight. I close my eyes and become aware of the flow of air into and out of my nose and mouth. That's all there is to it. Do this for 10-15 minutes.
Notice how relaxed and connected you feel afterwards.
Plus, you can do them anywhere – in the car, on the train, in John Lewis' car park, anywhere!
4) Open yourself up to discovering something new.
Read something, watch something or experience something out of the norm.
There are a plethora of different types of magazines, short films, TED talks or experiences you can get your hands on within a matter of clicks these days.
Or, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, visit your local library or bookstore and pick up something you wouldn't normally read.
You never know, you may discover something wonderful!
5) Doodling for the fun of it.
Most people can remember when they were young and used to doodle for hours.
Kids love drawing silly little pictures.
Drawing is not just for kids, or artists, it is for us 'kid-ults' (let's get this word trending) as well!
Wherever you are just draw for the fun of it and notice how your state of mind shifts. It is a great, fast way to get yourself out of the 'fight-or-flight' mode as it requires both parts of the brain to function at the same time, which forces you to be in the present moment.
6) Find something to laugh at.
Laughter is one of the best ways to lift your spirits.
Again, creating a playlist on Youtube, Instagram or Facebook is so easy and accessible nowadays, you can access an instant 'pick-me-up' in seconds.
I add to my playlist as I go along, to keep it fresh, that consists of a mixture of cute but rebellious animals causing havoc, silly meme videos and motivational clips by my mentors.
My latest go to video, that hasn’t failed in lifting my spirits yet, is this one!!
7) Give yourself a compliment
Being human is hard work! Just think about all the things you do between sunrise and sunset, in addition to the 60,000+ thoughts that run around your noggin, day in and day out.
Even when you are sleeping, your body is working hard to recover.
It’s no joke.
If that’s not worth a compliment, I honestly don’t know what is.
Look at yourself in the mirror and say: "Great job on surviving you baddass!".
The above are all pretty simple to achieve.
There is nothing profound or life changing here, #sorrynotsorry.
